2015

My paintings are cosmological diagrams in which I engage with discoveries in new science, psychology and consciousness in order to explore our origins through the materiality of paint itself. I scan the terrain between earth, sky and psyche, casting about for new connections and relationships. Nurtured as a child by my father’s questions as a physicist-engineer-inventor, I integrate his scientific curiosity with a painterly proclivity toward open-ended, free range imagination and play.Through integration of data visualization, diagrams and texts from multiple sources, my images arise from layering information such as current NASA satellite maps to microscopic views of neuronal dendrites. Whether my eye is turned toward our astrobiological birth from stardust or our biological birth in a nuclear family, my focus is always upon identity at its roots. My aim is to bridge what is as knowable as our own skin with what is as unknowable and invisible to the unmediated eye as our body’s interior or the outer edge of the solar system.
