Whatever Presents Itself

Whatever Presents Itself (2020) is my way of preserving, in the most unmediated way possible, the uncanny experiences I had during the months of COVID isolation. Each represents what I received as a gift—a sign, a wonder or a synchronicity. Other repetitive, ritualistic actions outside became ephemeral art forms such as stick fences and burn piles, which nature has already begun to reclaim.

What I began to cultivate was a mind that was willing to work with whatever presented itself. As I slowed down enough to absorb the phenomena unfolding around me, I became aware of another language barely audible until now. Even my breath became more perceptible and offered the possibility of a more enigmatic exchange with the world around me.

Our technologies can no longer hold our corporeal bodies at bay. We are enfolded in a much larger commons of the non-human world that is trying to get our attention. What has living in a purely human world cost us? These works arise out of encounters and events that took place in my everyday life, and that I have, quite literally, framed.
